In the present study total eight bacterial isolates were isolated from vegetable crops like tomato, brinjal by the enriched MSM broth with a supplement of chlorpyrifos source. These isolates were characterized morphologically, cultural and biochemically. Isolates of the microbial strains for identifying those having high chlorpyrifos degradation capabilities in liquid culture were undertaken as well. Among the eight chlorpyrifos bacterial isolates, CDB-1 showed the high population count at different incubation periods (1st day to 5th day) compared to all CDB inoculates. The CDB-1 isolate utilized the pesticide (chlorpyrifos) effectively and showed maximum growth bacterial count 5.8 cfu ×106 mL-1. Efficient CDB-1 isolate and chlorpyrifos degrading capacity were determined with measurement of chlorpyrifos residual concentrations at different days of intervals using gas chromatographic method. The degradation of chlorpyrifos at different concentrations (20, 30 and 40 mgL-1) was examined in the MSL medium. By this degradation percentage study of chlorpyrifos revealed that the chlorpyrifos degrading bacterial isolate (CDB-1) degrade the chlorpyrifos effectively. A pot experiment was conducted under green house conditions to study the influence of microbial consortia on rhizospheric soil enzymatic activities at different intervals of sorghum growth. Microbial consortia along with different doses of chemical fertilizers and FYM were added to sorghum (CSV-27). Different soil enzymes viz., acid phosphatase, alkaline phosphatase, dehydrogenase enzyme and urease enzyme activity were monitored at zero DAS, 45 DAS, 90DAS and 120DAS in potculture. Treatment T10 (75% RDF + Microbial consortium-2 +FYM) showed significantly highest enzymatic activity of all the enzymes at all intervals of crop growth compared to other treatments. While, except urease all the other three soil enzymes like dehydrogenase, acid phosphatase and alkaline phosphatase activities were significantly lowest in T11 (100% RDF). Microbial consortium-2 showed maximum enzymatic activity compared to microbial consortium-1.Keywords

Fluorescent pseudomonads drawn broad attention as production of secondary metabolites, phytohormones, siderophores, enzymes, antibiotics, hydrogen cyanide and volatile compounds. The present study was to exhilarate traits of plant growth promotion by fluorescent pseudomonads under drought stress. Fifty one efficient bacterial isolates were taken to evaluate their growth in different concentrations of polyethylene glycol 6000 (PEG) at 0 % (-0.05 MPa), 10 % (-0.65 MPa), 20 % (-1.57 MPa), 30 % (-2.17 MPa) and 40 % (-2.70 MPa). On the basis of growth at higher PEG (40 %) concentration, four efficient bacteria were preferred. Plant growth promoting traits such as IAA, exopolysachharides (EPS) production, ACC deaminase activity, phosphate solubilization and potassium releasing characters were tested for the selected drought tolerant fluorescent pseudomonads. Among four efficient strains, two strains i.e., PCKR-2 showed P-solubilization Index was (3.80 mm), followed by AGVS (4.33 mm), PCKS (4.12 mm) and PVAS (2.28 mm). Data on potassium solubilization activity show that out of two isolates, PCKR-2 showed the highest solubilization zone (3.50 mm), followed by PCKS (3.17 mm), AGVS (2.83 mm) and PVAS (2.50 mm). The findings suggests that the use of fluorescent pseudomonads will aid better plant growth promotion under drought stress.Keywords
